For Residential Building Contractors
Energy Code Compliance Testing
EnergyWize supports home builders and contractors in complying with Ohio Building Code for Energy Efficiency.
We provide Blower Door Tests and Duct Leakage Testing for mandatory Air Leakage Testing.
All new homes being built in Ohio are required to comply with Chapter 11, which regulates the design, construction, and testing of residential buildings for the effective use and conservation of energy.
Blower Door Test
Testing the building's thermal envelope
A Blower Door is a variable-speed fan mounted in a doorframe, which is used to pressurize and depressurize a house in order to measure the extent of air leaks and points of infiltration.
Ohio Code requires less than (<) 5 air changes an hour at a pressure difference of 50 Pascals (ACH50).
Duct Leakage Test
Measuring Duct Leakage
A Duct Blaster pressurizes the duct system with a calibrated fan and simultaneously measures the airflow through the fan and its effect on the pressure within the duct system.
Duct leakage measurements are used to diagnose and demonstrate leakage problems, estimate efficiency losses from duct leakage, and certify the quality of duct system installation.

Energy Efficiency Certificate
All new homes are required to “post” an Energy Certificate as a record of the home’s energy efficiency features and the results of the energy testing. The mandatory permanent certificate lists the predominate R-Values of insulation, U-Values of fenestration, efficiencies of the HVAC system, and the test results of the blower door and duct blaster (if ductwork is in unconditioned space.)
The energy certificate is required before an Occupancy Permit is issued.
We have these certificates available – please contact us for more information.
